MINUTES

The meeting commenced at 6:08 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Sadow, SAC Chair, thanked everyone for coming. The September 22, 2008 SAC minutes were accepted as read. Mr. Marlow, Principal, then gave his school report.

Classrooms are being provided with the new Promethean
boards, which allow for an infusion of technology and greater differentiated instruction for students.

Regarding our school’s four professional study days, teachers have been encouraged to try new learning
strategies. This way the school can reach and meet the needs of its students. A waiver vote for the 2009-10
professional study days will be conducted in January. Mr. Marlow announced that the county would be conducting its second Benchmark Assessment Test (BAT)
on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 18 and 19.

Mr. Marlow announced that the plans for our new stadium are gradually being approved. It will begin construction towards the end of November.

Thanks to Mr. Plotkin, a Multimedia Arts teacher, our school’s new website is up and running, and is very user friendly. Students are able to access Pinnacle and Virtual Counselor to view their grades and reports and can also view the school’s events and news.

Mr. Marlow announced that thirty pine trees were donated to the tree hugger’s society. Finally, he said that
the Rotary student of the month was Natasha Augustin.
Ms. Tammy Noel, President, Student Government Association, then gave the Inter-Club Council Report. She
announced that Mr. Pizzo, DECA Sponsor, and his students are helping to raise money for families in the
Deerfield Beach community.

Those that donate money will have their name put on a “turkey helping hand” to recognize the contribution. Ms. Noel encouraged those in attendance to spread the news. Finally, Ms. Noel announced that there would be a beach clean up on November 22, 2008. This would give students hours and
help spruce up our community. An anti-bullying video from the School Board’s Office of Prevention Programs followed.

The video focused on bullying and aggressive behaviors. Schools and parents are empowered to speak out, intervene, and abolish bullying. These programs are designed to protect students and to foster a safe environment.

The Office of Prevention Programs will be presenting before the January 26, 2009 SAC meeting. The remaining SAC officer position was filled. Ms. Jane Bracken is now the ESE Parent representative.

The 2008-09 SAC Bylaws were then ratified. Mr. Sadow mentioned that the 2009-10 professional study says
waiver community meeting will be held on January 26, 2009 at 6:30pm in the Media Center.

Immediately following the community meeting will be the monthly SAC meeting. At that meeting the 2009-10
professional study days waiver vote will be conducted

The meeting concluded at 6:50 pm with thanks to Ms. McKay for help with the refreshments, a thanks to the
custodial staff for setting the Media Center back up, and a reminder that the next SAC meeting is scheduled
for Monday, November 24, 2008 at 3:00pm in the Media Center.
