DBHS Begins New Sports Stadium Complex

On February 27 construction of our new sport s stadium complex began. With a budget of $4.5 million, this establishment was long overdue.
The new structure will include a stadium space for football, track, and soccer. Those involved with the project estimate that the complex should be done in August of this year. Considering Deerfield Beach High has excelled in sports, the new sports complex is, to some, a reward for their efforts.
Deerfield representatives along with Dr. Robert Parks, the SBBC North Area Superintendent, DBHS Principal Jon Marlow and Athletic Director Vincent Tozzi, and other community and school officials were on hand for this exciting ceremony.
Student reaction to the future look of the stadium was excellent. Student Representative Jean-Dominique Foureau commented, “Receiving this stadium is a great accomplishment and reward for us. We deserve this more than any other school.”
Elite politicians such as Mayor Sylvia Poitier and State Representative Gwendolyn Clark Reed, City Commissioner Gloria Battle as well as District Two Commissioner Kristin Jacobs, spoke on behalf of the extraordinary changes being made at DBHS. Student Katherine Herrera commented “our whole school is making an exemplary effort in strengthening not only athletics but academics also”.
State Representative Gwendolyn Clark Reed said,” These kids deserve this stadium.” Reed continued by reminiscing to a time when Deerfield had no sports complex for its students. She also feels that sports are a major part of a student’s high school experience.
Representative Reed made it a point to show her excitement for the stadium itself saying,” I did not attend many Deerfield games before now, but I hope I will be invited to attend many more.” With hopes of a 6,000 person seating space, fans are sure to be flocking to new stadium.
